TZTL12/15F Units rebooting on start up or inside general operation

NMEA2000 Guidelines

On some installation we have seen issues with some installation not adhering to the IAW NMEA 0400 Installation Standard Edition 2014, specifically V4.00 (section 8.3.7.3) which requires NMEA2000 power to be isolated. Most problems are caused by 24VDC vessels using non-isolated power convertors/battery chargers to provide power to the NMEA2000 bus. Not having an isolated power supply can introduce ground loop issues which can cause a wide range of potential issues.

Shielded Cables

The installation should also use of high-quality shielded network cables (metal plug RJ45) to help eliminate noise on the network, if a coupler is used this will have to carry the shielding also.

Non-Shielded Plug                                       Shielded Plug

Rebooting normally relates to one of the following

-           Improper power – AC noise on DC line(s) or power not properly isolated

-           Bad chart memory

-           Improper user setup (instance conflicts on NMEA 2000 bus)

-           Bad NMEA 2000 bus architecture.

-           Bad user data

-           Something connected that shouldn’t be (like USB keyboard, boat home network or sat tv/com)

-           Unshielded network cables
